Girls night... in. (Written in May 2010.)

She showed up at the door at 6:15PM; 15 minutes earlier than the time of the invitation. She was greeted at the door by a big hug from Miss K. She had called Miss K earlier in the week because she was going to be alone on this Saturday and decided she needed some girl talk. Miss K had said she was not busy for supper or the evening, and suggested other friends join them. She liked that idea and looked forward to it all week, seeing that was her first girls' night out. No decision was taken as to where they were going, or if they were even going to go out for supper. So it was decided that we all meet at the home of Miss K and her roommates.

She spent the afternoon getting ready: she shaved (everything), put on her makeup, and chose a short black skirt (above the knee, but not mini), black tights, and a white tank top covered with an open, black shirt that is covered in red dragons. When she looked in the mirror, she thought “Darn, I look good”.

When she got to the house, Miss K was in the process of making supper. Something simple; perogies, ham and salad. (Miss E brought a cake for desert to accompany the meal.) Having accepted a glass of wine, she stood in the kitchen and kept Miss K company while the cook was hard at work. It was a wonderful experience. So much, that tears of joy were not far from falling.

Supper was served and while they ate, there was great conversation and wine. After the table was cleared the question arose, as to what to do next. When you have six people who are used to being told what to do, all their lives, decisions are hard to make. Everyone is waiting for the other person to suggest something. Since no suggestion was made, they decided to stay where they were, and had coffee and wine; and more conversation.

They talked of dogs, former spouses, dogs, families, dogs and doctors. And sometimes the subject of dogs were brought up. They laughed and talked of serious things. They talked of their likes and things they had in common.

There was no dancing and no singing, but to her, this was the greatest night she's ever had. She left home as Rikki, drove there, was accepted as herself, and later drove home. She felt a camaraderie that she had never felt at any time in her life. Five special ladies treated her as the woman she is, and it made her feel warm all over.

She got home at about 2:00, but sleep did not come easy. So many thoughts went through her mind. What they talked about. About the intention to meet up again, but with some concrete plans.

This looks like it is the beginning of a wonderful friendship, and she hopes it continues for a long time.

Thanks for everything girls.
